The ISHR is passionate in education, through the integration of art and positivity, of the principles embedded in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Throughout my time with this organization I have participated in various activities where I have gotten the chance to see first hand how important the work we are doing is. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights has existed since 1948, has been translated in 508 languages, is agreed upon by all but three nations yet is only known about by five percent of the world population and has only been read by a mere one percent.
Through the ISHR I was given the opportunity to observe a Human Rights Class in a Box presentation that was given at Miami Dade College- North Campus to Ms. Pedreschi’s Psychology and Human Development classes. It was very exciting to learn about the varying degrees of knowledge these students have about the topic of human rights. Before delving into the more specific of each of the 30 articles written in the Declaration, the students were asked if they were familiar with any human right and some were but only of a handful of them, definitely not all thirty. I found that really eye opening because although these rights are universal and given to everyone so few people actually know and understand them. After learning more about how to tie together education with human rights I was tasked with creating my own take on it to show during class presentations.
Unfortunately I became and intern for this organization during my last semester of my undergrad career so I have been trying to do as much as possible at FIU during the time I have left here. We have been able to host various talks on campus including one during a Tuesday Times Roundtable, during these talks the ISHR's mission is to increase the percentage of people that are exposed to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. There are still some events and tasks planned for the rest of the semester that will hopefully carry on for years to come, maintaining a relationship between the ISHR and FIU.
Future projects:

Go green
Internship site: Office of University Sustainability
Location: Florida International University
Title: Zero Waste Intern
Duration: 1 semester [Fall 2018]
Social Media: @fiugogreen
Tasks:
During my time with FIU Go Green I have been able to grow my knowledge of sustainability and the importance of producing less, consuming less and living an overall more minimal life. Through this internship I was given the ability to reach out to brands, businesses and people that are advocating for waste reduction through different platforms. This position has offered me connections with people in the field of sustainability in order to gain my knowledge and understanding of the topic. Aside from my daily tasks I decided that we needed to being doing more to get other students on campus interested and informed on what the office does. In order to do so I will be hosting an event through the Go Green office in late November where sustainability speakers from Planted in Miami Podcast, Verde Market, Catalyst Miami climate lobby, Cleo Institute and TREEmendous will participate in an open-forum panel. I am very grateful for the opportunities that have been afforded to me through this internship.
